Alerts Browser

Overview

Alerts are the pre-configured attention drawing messages triggered when a change happens in monitoring. Depending on the configuration of the monitors, OpsRamp captures the alerts that require attention. Alerts help you to apply the needed measures.

Filter Attributes

Perform the following steps to view the filter attributes:

  1. Log into OpsRamp.

  2. Click All Clients and from the displayed list select a client.

  3. From the drop-down options, click Alerts. Alerts page is displayed consisting of all the alerts triggered.

  4. Click Manage Views. Manage Views window appears.

  5. Click Add. Filter attributes are displayed.

  6. Select the required attribute.

  7. Click Apply to for a one time view of the filtered alerts or click Save to save the view for future reference.

Below are the alert filter attributes.

Client Alerts can be filtered on the specific client. For example, if you select client ABC from the client list, then only alerts relevant to that client are listed.

Device Status Alerts can be filtered on the specific device status. For example, if you select a status of device from the list All, Managed Device and Unmanaged Devices, then only alerts relevant to that device status are listed.

Resource Type Alerts can be filtered on the type of a resource. For example, if you select multiple resource types from the list, then only alerts relevant to the resources are listed. Note: User can select maximum ten resource types from the list.

Sites

Alerts can be filtered on the sites. For example, if you select a specific site from the list , then the alerts relevant to that sites are listed.

Device Groups Alerts can be filtered on the type of a device group. For example, if you select a device group from the list , then the alerts relevant to that device group are listed.

Device Type Alerts can be filtered on the type of a device. For example, if you select a device type from the list , then the alerts relevant to that devices are listed.

Resource name Alerts can be filtered on the name of the resource. For example, if you select a resource from the list , then the alerts relevant to resources are listed.

Source Alerts can be filtered on the source. For example, if you select a source from the list , then the alerts relevant to that resource are listed.

Alert Type Alerts can be filtered on the type of alert. For example, if you select a an alert type , then the alerts relevant to that alert type are listed.

Metric Alerts can be filtered on the metric. For example, if you select a metric from the list , then the alerts relevant to that metric are listed.

Priority Alerts can be filtered on the priority where P0 is the low priority and P5 is the highest priority. For example, if you select a priority from the list , then the alerts relevant to that priority type are listed.

Current Status Alerts can be filtered on the current status. Supported values for current status are: All Status, Critical, Observed, Warning, Ok, and Info. For example, to view list of alerts in Observed state, select the value Observed.

Actions Alerts can be filtered on the actions. For example, if you select any actions from the list , then the alerts relevant to that action are listed.

Duration Alerts can be filtered on the specific duration. For example, if you select a specific duration from the list , then the alerts relevant to that duration are listed.

From and To Date From Date: Select From Date from the pick list. To Date: Select To Date from the pick list. The Alerts will be now displayed between the date range provided.

Alert Timestamp Alerts can be filtered on the timestamp of alert. For example, if you select a timestamp from the list, then the alerts relevant to that timestamp are listed.

Special Attributes The special attribute Availability allows you to filter availability alerts. Using this Availability attribute, you can only view the alerts that are triggered when resources are down.

  1. Click Availability from Special Attributes drop-down list.

  2. Click Apply. Availability alerts are displayed. The Availability icon helps you to identify an Availability alert.

Alert Views

Alert Views enable users to view alerts with certain attributes. An alert view can be a private or a shared view. For example, in an organization, a Network administrator can create an alert view to display only Network related alerts and share the view across users in the organization.

  • Shared View: Allow other users in the organization to access the view.

  • Private View: Set the view private to the view creator.

Instructions to create an alert view:

  1. Login to OpsRamp.

  2. Click All Clients and then select the client.

  3. On the drop-down menu, click Alerts. Alerts Browser page appears.

  4. Click Manage Views.

  5. Click Add, select the alert attributes and then click Save.

  6. Provide name for the view and then select the view type.

    • Default View: Set a view as default view for Alerts Browser page. A default view is private that is restricted to the view creator.

    • Shared View: Allow users within an organization to access the view.

Note:

  • Shared view icon helps to identify a shared alert view.

  • Users with similar roles and permissions can access shared alert views.

Description

Acknowledge

When an alert is received you need to acknowledge it. Once the alert is acknowledged a comment will be displayed as Acknowledged along with the user name.

Create Incident

You can create a ticket for the generated alert and assign it to users and set the priority.

Attach And Update Incident

You can map an alert to an existing ticket and also update the ticket with the alert contents. This is generally used to update the same ticket with related alerts.

Attach Incident

You can map an alert to an existing ticket without updating the ticket with the alert contents.

Suppress

Temporarily suppresses the current alert and all its duplicates. Once suppressed, any new alert of the same type will appear as a fresh alert and not as a duplicate.

Permanent Suppress

You can permanently suppress the alert on the device. Once an alert is permanently suppressed, no new alerts of this type will appear on the alert list page.

Alert Report

Alerts report displays a list of alerts triggered during a specified time period.

  1. Login to OpsRamp.

  2. Click All Clients and then select the client.

  3. On the drop-down menu, click Reports. List of reports appear.

  4. Click Add. Report window appears.

  5. Select Alert Report from the drop-down.

  6. Select the attributes and click Generate Now to fetch the list of reports relevant to the filtered attributes.

  7. Click Apply Schedule to generate the alerts report at a specific time.

Alert Types

Forecast Alerts

When a monitor triggers a forecast alert, the alert appears on the Alerts page, and displays the below information of a forecast alert.

Change Detection Alerts

When a monitor triggers a change detection alert, the alert appears on Alerts page. Alert information is shown below:
